Legal experts in family and residential property join Thursfields’ Black Country team

A specialist in family law and children issues and a former legal ombudsman for residential property have been recruited to join Thursfields Solicitors’ team in the Black Country.

Sandeep Sandhu, who has practiced in all areas of family law since 2006, has been appointed as an Associate Solicitor in the Sedgley office.

Meanwhile Darren Cox, who has spent the last seven years handling and deciding the outcome of residential property complaints for the Legal Ombudsman, has been appointed as an Associate Solicitor in the same Sedgley office.

Sandeep, who is originally from Leeds and moved to the West Midlands last year, also has an interest in assisting grandparents with contact issues, and she regularly advises clients with Islamic or foreign marriages who are divorcing.

She said: “I’ve only heard good things about the multi award-winning Thursfields. I’ve been particularly impressed with its recent growth and how it’s managed to keep its integrity and still provide excellent customer care, which is very important to me.

I am excited to be based in Sedgley and look forward to establishing links with local and surrounding communities.”

Sandeep is a committee member for the Midlands Asian Lawyers Association, a non-profit organisation that promotes equality and diversity in the legal profession.

She’s also a member of Resolution, a community of family lawyers who believe that a non-confrontational approach produces better outcomes for separating families and their children.

Darren Cox qualified as a solicitor in 2007 after studying law at the University of Wolverhampton. He was an Ombudsman for a number of years dealing with complaints about property transactions. In his capacity as an Ombudsman he has regularly appeared on BBC regional and national radio as an expert to advise on residential property issues.

He said: “I am passionate about client service from my time as an Ombudsman, and I was attracted to Thursfields because they share that commitment to high quality, local customer services.

This will allow me to offer clients a local, bespoke and personal service right on their doorstep, which is very different what is on offer from some of the larger ‘conveyancing factory’ style firms.

I have lived in this area all my life and believe that local people shouldn’t have to go far to get high quality legal advice in residential property – it is available on their doorstep at Thursfields”

Darren has retained close links with the University of Wolverhampton, where he acts as a mentor to students and is an ambassador for the university’s law school.

Shane Miller, Head of the Family Law department at Thursfields, which is the current holder of ‘Family Law Firm of the Year’ for the Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to have recruited Sandeep.

Her particular focus on children issues, contact by grandparents and foreign marriages brings an extra set of skills which makes Thursfields’ offer even stronger to clients across the region.”

Nick O’Hara, Managing Director at Thursfields, said: “Darren’s passionate focus on high quality service standards makes him ideal to join our team in Sedgley where we always put the customer first.

I’m also pleased that he was so keen to join us, as our growing reputation means we are continually appointing top solicitors to our expanding team.”
