Frequently Asked Questions

Wealth protection is the process of devising a comprehensive strategy to preserve an individual’s property and financial assets. It’s a multi-faceted approach which brings together several elements, such as making a will, trust, or lasting power of attorney, investment strategies, and taking out insurance policies.

The ideal solution for you will depend on your unique circumstances and asset portfolio, so it’s important to work with experienced wealth protection solicitors who will develop a strategy based on your goals and aspirations.

A key element of protecting your wealth is identifying potential threats to your assets and devising a strategy to mitigate the effects. Examples of these include paying too much tax, divorce settlements, and remarriage. By taking action to nullify these threats, you can ensure more of your hard-earned wealth can be preserved to support future generations.

Although it’s not mandatory to seek legal advice when deciding how to safeguard your assets, it’s highly-recommended to speak with specialist wealth protection solicitors — especially if you have a complex financial portfolio. They will help you devise a bespoke strategy to ensure your unique goals are met.

Divorce can be a major obstacle when attempting to preserve your assets. One way to safeguard against this is by using nuptial agreements, prenuptials before a marriage or civil partnership, or a postnuptial during the relationship. Although not legally binding, these agreements are being recognised more and more by the courts to help them decide how assets should be divided.
