‘Summer of Touch Rugby’ tournament sponsored by Thursfields

Thursfields Solicitors is sponsoring a ‘Summer of Touch Rugby’ tournament for family, community and company teams at Droitwich Rugby Club.

The summer tournament began on 7th June with an introduction to proper touch rugby rules and is running every Thursday for seven weeks, ending on 19 July with a barbecue and awards ceremony.

Touch rugby is a version of rugby football where players do not tackle each other but instead touch their opponents using their hands on any part of the body, clothing or the ball.

Twelve teams have entered the tournament including Droitwich 2nd XV, U14s Lads and Dads and the Worcester Warriors Homeless Sixteen. The tournament will see every team play each other leading to play offs, depending on the rankings.

Jessica Wheway, a solicitor in the Residential Property team at Thursfields’ Kidderminster office, is a keen player of touch rugby and has helped to organise the event.

She said: “Thursfields is delighted to sponsor this event which provides both good fun and a way for people to increase their fitness. The event will be refereed by England Touch officials to ensure consistency, fair play and enjoyment for everyone.”

The ‘Summer of Touch Rugby’ takes place at the 02 Touch Centre, Droitwich Rugby Club, where the club house will be open for food and drink, with free WiFi and toilets on site.

Anyone not involved in the tournament but wishing to take up touch rugby can watch the Droitwich Touch team train on a Tuesday evening between 7pm and 8:30pm.
